Neighboring Lives is an 18.7 channel sound installation housed within a constructed studio apartment. Voices and actions can be heard coming from the floor, ceiling, and surrounding walls. The audio tracks are comprised of field recordings, podcasts, and open source sound files drawn from the Internet. Through these sounds the viewer begins to visually construct the lives that inhabit the neighboring apartments. The installation explores the auditory impact on the individual from their surroundings, as well as the involuntary voyeurism inherent in urban living. |
