AXIOM Gallery, Boston, 2007
Jake Lee-High, Jerel Dye, Sean O'Brien, and Fred Wolflink
The AXIOM gallery was transformed into a biological cell that feeds off the electromagnetic fields of passing MBTA trains. Viewers' interactions with the interior and exterior of the gallery space reshape conditions within the cell while draining the cell's energy. Pedestrians, as both variable and viewer, affect the cell's functions through the use of sensors, cameras, video, lighting, motors, and other electronic instruments. By taking advantage of the unique location of the AXIOM gallery and through the analysis of people's daily commutes, the gallery space engaged the public and enriched their transit routines.
